A Seat in a Shell

Theo and Mum were looking for a fish with a moustache. They had seen it on the little picture beside the aquarium tank, but finding it in the water was harder.

“Perhaps it's behind that rock,” said Mum.

Theo bent his knees and peered beneath a ledge. A pair of whiskers poked out.

“There you are,” he whispered.

The fish stayed tucked in its rocky doorway. Only its whiskers moved. Theo wiggled two fingers beside his mouth, and Mum made a whiskery face back.

Farther along, little silver fish swam together. They all turned at once, flashing like spoons in the light. Theo and Mum walked beside them, following the long glass wall.
