The Slippers Under the Bed

Rory lies in his bed. The blanket is soft. The lamp is off. The room is dark and quiet. Rory yawns and settles down.
Two shapes poke out from under the bed. Two scary feet, still and silent.
Rory's heart beats fast. His tummy feels tight. He pulls the blanket up to his chin. He holds his breath.
"Mama!" Rory calls. His voice is small.
