Ada and the Little Yellow Moons
Ada the badger cub spread the picnic blanket beside Mama. They had eaten their sandwiches, and the park was growing dark. Ada's soft yellow ear defenders lay beside her cup. There was a little moon on each side. Across the pond, a fenced field waited beneath the evening sky.
A bright sparkle opened above the field. BANG. Ada jumped, and her cup tipped over. She pressed her paws against her ears. Another sparkle spread overhead. Ada ducked under the picnic blanket before its bang arrived. Her heart was beating fast. Even the grass beneath her paws seemed to tremble.
"I'm scared," she said. "I can't tell which sparkle will bang." Mama sat beside the blanket. "Those sudden bangs startled you. It's okay to feel scared. I'm staying here with you." Ada could see Mama's paw beside her own. She moved a little closer.
Sleep tight.
