Room Beside Dad

Ages 4–54 min read

Moss the little badger sat beside Dad on the rug. Their wooden tower reached past Moss’s knees. Moss held the last square block between his paws.

“Now the roof,” he said.

Dad reached for a flat block. Then a cry came from the basket beside them.

Dad lifted Moss’s baby sister against his chest. He stayed on the rug, but his paws were busy now.

“Our tower will wait here,” Dad said. “She needs a cuddle.”

Moss pressed the square block into his lap. Since his sister had arrived, games stopped in the middle. Sometimes Dad could only watch while Moss built.

Moss wanted both of Dad’s paws back. His tummy felt tight. He was cross about waiting. He wanted their roof finished now.

If the crying stopped, Dad could help again.

Sleep tight.
